Seeing things differently

Here are just some of the ways we can show your instrument using the data from one single scan.

3D Volume Rendering (3DVR)

3DVR reconstructs the data into a virtual instrument which can be sliced in every possible direction

Multiplanar reconstruction (MPR)

MPR shows the instrument from three angles but, crucially, the thickness of the view can be varied. This allows you to search for tiny details such as worm channels. The axis can also be changed. That’s really useful because all the surfaces of the violin are curved.

See how well the worm channels show up. Only a few exit holes were visible on the  inside surface of the back.

The arching profiles can be shown in any plane and the thicknesses measured accurately.

This is perfect for copying an instrument or planning arching corrections.

3D virtual endoscopy (3DVE)

3DVE gives a totally unique view of the inner structure.

We can insert a ‘virtual’ camera into the instrument to look at the inside surface and inside the solid areas as well.

Here, we can actually see inside the worm cavities which are less than 2mm in diameter. It beautifully shows the cavities branching off.

The same area is shown on the right hand picture.
